Artworks on Campus
In the field of Visual Arts, SeCArtE promotes artistic production and appreciation across the UFSC campus while also extending its initiatives to other parts of Santa Catarina and Brazil through traveling exhibitions, art competitions and other projects.
The Arts and Culture Department (DAC) maintains an art collection on campus, with some works on permanent display and others featured in temporary exhibitions. Every semester, it also offers Visual Arts courses and workshops, organizes meetings with artists, and provides advisory services.
Particularly in the field of Plastic Arts, projects resulting in monuments, murals and sculptures have been developed throughout the campus. Some of these works were selected through national and international competitions, including the Monument to the Victims of the Discovery of America, for which 80 proposals from Latin American countries were submitted.
Visitors to the University can also admire the Humanity mural, by Hassis Corrêa, located inside the Igrejinha (Little Church); the mural depicting cultural aspects of Santa Catarina, by Martinho de Haro, in the Rectorate Building Hall; and hundreds of other works by Brazilian and international artists permanently displayed in UFSC’s academic and administrative buildings.
